About
Women Helping Women Fund, Spokane
We believe that "empowering women and children builds healthy families and vibrant communities." In 1992, six Spokane women decided to do something for local women and children in need. They had two goals:To raise awareness of the plight of women and children in need in SpokaneTo raise money that would be used to help programs that make a positive difference for women and children. These six women believed their financial contributions could make a difference. They also believed that they, and others who joined them, would be enriched and empowered by the act of giving.Their crusade to end the cycle of poverty took the form of a benefit luncheon. The first luncheon, which was held in 1993, was attended by 760 women and men and raised more $80,000 which was distributed to seven programs. Subsequent lunches have raised over $2.5 million dollars, and 217 programs have been served. Funds raised at the luncheon are donated directly to programs managed by Spokane nonprofit agencies.
