About
Waverly Place Bed and Breakfast, Spokane
The Corbin Park historic district is located on the site of the first Washington-Idaho fairgrounds, where at the turn of the century, Spokanites enjoyed sulky and harnessed teams racing on what was once described as "one of the fastest half-mile tracks west of the Mississippi." Spokane's Gentleman's Riding Club was established near the track, and racing was considered a major social event to be patronized by many of the city's prominent citizens. The fairgrounds eventually evolved into Spokane's second park, Corbin Park, designed by the renowned Olmstead brothers, who also designed New York's Central Park. Today the twelve acre park is a favorite destination for those who enjoy jogging or strolling the one mile oval surrounded by turn of the century homes, most of which were built before 1918.
